We started the new year by giving gifts to the children in Guadalupe on Tuesday, Jan 7! This coincided with the January 6th celebration in Guadalupe they call “Tres Reyes” - the three kings (in the church, we know it as Epiphany). It was joyous to see the children in Guadalupe receive these gifts because they are beloved.
Weekly, we continue to use Montessori-style Bible Stories because they make it easier for the children to understand the Word of God. Thank you particularly to Dave Smith who has been joining us on Tuesdays.
In 2025 we plan to broaden the partnership with Anita Soto and her non-profit, Bella Estrella, by inviting others to tutor children. This spring we will work to develop a program for a summer and/or fall camp. We are very humbled and grateful that in 2025 Arizona Neighborhood Transformation and those in our circle of influence can partner in these ministry extensions for the benefit of the little and the young in Guadalupe. Please reach out to Jeff Bisgrove if you want to know more.
In this season after Christmas (when Jesus came into the world) through Easter (when Jesus was crucifed, died, and rose from the dead) our focus is on helping the children understand more about Jesus and His message. The last three weeks have been digging into parables: The Parable of the Gret Pearl, The Parable of the Mustard Seed, and the Parable of the Leaven. If you recall these parables, Jesus used them when people asked Him "What is the Kingdom of God like?". By seeing, hearing, and discussing the parables, the children are beginning to understand that Jesus is telling us that God's Kingdom is more valuable than all their stuff and God's Kingdom is a wonderful place to live and to be a family. They are telling us this in their own words. May we all have ears to hear!
It has been a great joy to be part of sharing the Good News in Guadalupe. Thank you for your support in time, talent, and treasure. If you are interested in contributing in any way to tutoring or toward a program in the summer/fall, please let Jeff know.
