May 2025 – Summer Program

The Lord is Risen!

Easter is tomorrow! In Guadalupe, we have continued our weekly Montessori-style Bible Stories all semester and through Lent. This year we have told about pivotal moments in Jesus' life: His birth, his growing up, his baptism, his time in the desert, his time healing and teaching about the Kingdom of God, his last passover, his death and his resurrection.  In particular we strive to help the children see the true biblical story in the Pascua Yaqui tribe reenactments that occur every Lent in Guadalupe.

The Yaquis are one of the few people that remember Jesus by acting out "The Passion" for the 40 days of Lent in their own special way. The unfortunate part is most of the people have lost the meaning and understanding of the ceremonies. The tradition is performed but the young people are not given words to understand, largely because the Yaqui language is an oral culture without written text, engulfed by Mexican and American culture and text. Without words meaning is lost. Because of this our ministry goal with Miss Anita is to help the children see and know the reason for the ceremonies is JESUS. The people who began the ceremonies did so because JESUS was their Lord. In Lent, we pray they come to know it is Jesus that gives them eternal life; He is risen from the dead and they can rise with him!

It has been amazing to see how the children lean in and participate in the Bible stories.  They help me tell them!  They are engaged all the way through and then they show what the story means to them by responding with art, they have begun to understand the original meaning of the Guadalupe Lenten Ceremonies.

Tutoring

Some people from Living Faith have joined us in tutoring this spring. It has been great to watch and it is a really blessing for the tutor and the children.

Guadalupe Summer Program 2025
June 2- July 17 (not over July 4th week)

This summer we will have a program in the Mercado. We are partnering with Miss Anita Soto and her non profit, Belle Estrella, as well as with Tyler Cook, a missionary called to Guadalupe. As Guadalupe has a summer school program in the morning, we will gather Mondays through Wednesdays 2:30 PM  - 5:30 PM.

Have Time, Talent, or Treasure to Share?

Prayer Requests

  • For those sharing the Gospel:
    • Tyler Cook and working to move in and do ministry in Guadalupe while being present and sharing the Gospel already.
    • Miss Anita Soto and Belle Estrella's ministry to Guadalupe.
    • Tutors and Bible Study volunteers to be blessed in their giving of time and talent.
  • That together we all faithfully proclaim the Word of God and his love.
  • For the children and parents receiving ministry to know the Lord, Jesus.
