The changes continue at the Guadalupe Learning Lab! We decided not to do a summer program this year and instead focused on improving the space and training our teachers. The results will be "Mi Casita - A Christian Montessori Preschool". Check out the pictures. We have outfitted the pre school side and some of the tutoring side to allow for Montessori teaching. We have been sorting and organizing materials. And most of all - we have been training. Cindy Frost, who taught her children Montessori style from first grade through high school is doing the teaching. She is training Miss Marina, Miss Crystal, Miss Patrica and Miss Vanessa in Montessori and helping them get everything together they will need for the first semester of preschool starting in August. We already have ten children signed up and more on the way. Our target is 15 for the first semester on 2019.
The 2018-2019 school year was our first time with a preschool and we learned a great deal. The first thing was that is was very successful. We had 19 children in the first phase and all those that were of age got into kindergarten. The children learned how to behave in a school environment and they learned the basics - colors, letters, numbers, some reading. And they had a ball - they learned that learning was fun.
We also learned we could do more. After seeing how Montessori learning can help fuel a child's interest in learning, we decided to invest in the preschool and see if we could really help give these kids a boost. The teachers in the lab had all seen Montessori and wanted to learn it so they could deliver it to the children. Since Cindy and I had the materials, we got them out and started training. So here we are - please pray for the preschool in the new school year. We will also continue to do after school tutoring, so the Lab will be really rocking this year!
Grant Update - Praise God
We are thrilled to inform folks that we received a $5000 grant from the Mission Increase / Impact AZ. This was a direct result of the increase in tax credit donations AZNT saw in Aug 2018-March 2019. Thank you so much for making this happen!
Also - another Praise God. We were blessed to receive a $15000 grant from the Anglican Church of North America Matthew 25 initiative! To get this one - we need to raise a matching $15000. So - please give - as we raise money we can apply it to this grant. Your donation will DOUBLE its impact. And we are still approved for the AZ tax Credit - so you can give using the tax credit AND double your impact. Please consider doing this.
